What is an Air Conditioner? An air conditioner, part of a central heating and cooling system, extracts thermal energy from the house and transfers it to the outside air. Use of Air Conditioner The air conditioner in a central heating and cooling system supplies fresh air through ducts inside your home, providing a process that draws warm air indoors, removing its heat. In a split system, the compressor condenses and circulates the refrigerant through the outdoor unit, changing it from a gas to a liquid. The liquid is then forced through the evaporator coil or indoor cooling compartment. The indoor unit's fan circulates indoor air to pass through the evaporator fins. The metal fins of the evaporator exchange thermal energy with the surrounding air. There, the refrigerant changes from liquid to vapour, removing heat from the surrounding air.
