A vacuum pump is a mechanical part that is found in every diesel engine and contributes greatly to its proper operation. It has several roles, the most important of which is to assist in the braking of the vehicle. Here's how it works: the pump creates a vacuum of air in what is called the brake booster, this technique allows it to combine the force of the atmospheric pressure with the brake pedal, making the driver's job easier. Other functions of the vacuum pump include pneumatic control of the door locks, air conditioning of the car and powering the solenoid valves controlling the turbocharger and the EGR valve. It should be noted that the operating mode of a vacuum pump varies according to the type of fuel in the vehicle, as it does not act in the same way on a petrol engine as on a diesel engine.
