What you should know about Baluster
Ballusters are a series of columns arranged side by side to form a railing, barrier, or guardrail, along a staircase, down a terrace or mezzanine; or surrounding a verandah. At the same time, ballusters act as decorative and design elements to a dwelling. They thus give what is called the balustrade with the two elements called the low and high rail. The bottom rail is the base on which the small columns rest. While the top rail is the handrail that serves as the cap of the structure and on which one can lean or lean.
While in the past these timeless decorative elements were mainly made of concrete, marble, stone and even wood, today the trend is towards stainless steel ballusters. Assembled ballusters are also very common and popular. We can find for example the assembly of glass and with bars or cables in stainless steel; or stainless steel with natural or tinted glass panels. Although stainless steel has several qualities, including strength and corrosion resistance, it is not very recommended for seaside dwellings.
