Badminton racket: description and use

A badminton racket is a sports accessory used to play badminton. Like all badminton rackets, it consists of a handle and a screen, the latter being used to hit the shuttlecock used to play badminton.

However, the badminton racket has its own characteristics: a classic model is about 65 centimetres long, while its head is 20 centimetres wide. It is considerably lighter than a tennis racket, weighing between 65 and 100 grams, depending on the material used. The professional models are made of graphite or carbon, which saves weight and improves manoeuvrability. Metal rackets, which are heavier, are used more for amateur badminton.

Just like in tennis, the stringing of a badminton racket can be customized, for example in a specialized shop. The string thickness usually ranges from 0.60 to 0.75 millimetres: thin strings are recommended for professional badminton players. The choice of string depends on the way of playing: a higher tension of the screen will increase the precision, a lower tension will improve the hitting power.
