The compactometer or penetrometer is a technological device for soil analysis. It allows to know the quality of the structure which composes the pedological surface.
This device is used by drilling professionals, farmers, as well as those working in the construction industry. Some scientific researchers also use the compactometer.
Depending on its use, they have the choice between a static and a dynamic compactometer. These are available as standard models, but it is also possible to use those with pneumatic wheels. The shear resistance can be determined using a shear meter. It is also effective for understanding the degree of humidity and for measuring the tenacity of a soil in relation to a dent.
A basic compactometer consists of a few main components. It has a motor or ramming ram connected to a guiding support. This motor allows the device to sink into the ground by applying a certain force at a defined height. The compaction meter also has an anvil attached to the frame.
